The city of Bandung is known throughout Indonesia for its shopping and its artistic café and pub environment. As the fashion- and textile capital of Indonesia, shopping in Bandung can be done in up-market malls as well as in so called ‘factory outlets’ where ‘overstocks’ and ‘rejects’ are sold at highly competitive prices.
Some of the better factory outlets are Rumah Mode, Heritage Factory Outlet, Grande Fashion Factory Outlet, and finally Jalan Cihamapelas – or Jeans Street – where shoppers can find many shops and outlets all in one and the same street.
Bandung’s nightlife is found in and around the Braga district that dates back to colonial days when Indonesia was ruled and occupied by the Brits and the Dutch. Many buildings from that colonial era are now home to banks and other financial institutions, hotels, museums or entertainment and food outlets. In and around the Braga area old Art Deco hotels such as Savoy Homann Bidakara Hotel and the Prama Grand Preanger hotel still stand tall.
In the same Braga area the museum of the Africa Asia Conference tells the story of the epic event that took place in 1955 and that brought together nations that (then recently) emerged from colonial rule.
FOOD AND F&B PLACES
Bandung is famous for its food and F&B outlets. A place sure not to miss is called Kampung Daun. It is located on a mountain that overlook the city and sits amidst a genuine forest setting. It offers a rather tranquil and serene open-air environment for dinner. Unique is the word that most typifies this pretty unique open-air restaurant. Make sure to make a booking during weekends.
For the latest ‘in vogue’ and trendy dining places in town we advise you to talk to your hotel concierge or guest relation officer, or better still, go to the internet to find out about the best (new) places for wining and dining.
