The city of Bandung is located some 2.5 hours south-east of Jakarta. Formerly also known as Paris of Java, the capital of West Java is home to four golf courses that offer 4 distinctly different golfing experiences.
In the Dago area, north of the city in a mountainous landscape that offers fabulous views over the city, the Dago golf course is the oldest of the four. Given the terrain, the majority of holes are either (steep) uphill or downhill, making the use of golf carts a welcome option.
Less than 3 kilometers further up the mountain, the Mountain View Dago Pakar course is located in an up-market residential estate. Designed by 5-time British Open champion Peter Thomson, the course is carved out of the hills that overlook the city, offering golfers some interesting holes and incredibly nice vistas.
The second-oldest golf course in Bandung is located in the Kopo district. This forest course is a somewhat old-fashioned layout made up of holes that feature tree-lined fairways as well as holes that are located on more open plains. The latter are home to lakes and ponds, some of which are hazards that come into play on certain holes. From many of these “open plain” holes, golfers have a view on the mountain ridge that surrounds Bandung. Although the course is in dire need of a complete overhaul, Bandung Indah is still a treat to play.
In the Jatinangor district on the western outskirts of the city, golfers find the Bandung Giri Gahana Golf & Resort. Located in a valley surrounded by mountains in every direction, this course may well be your most memorable golfing experience in and around Bandung. The clubhouse finds a home in the on-course resort hotel that offers non-golfing members of the family the possibility to join dad for the weekend or a short golfing break.
