Sitting at 800 meters above sea level, Merapi Golf & Mountain Resort is situated on a relatively open plane at the foot of the active Merapi volcano. It was designed by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perret.
The front nine plays predominantly from the east to the west or vice versa, while the back nine plays predominantly north to south or to and fro the mountain.
The greens are rather deceptive and according to the caddies the majority of the puts towards the mountain are downhill although you would swear they were uphill. It's highly confusing but be assured that your caddie can give you a perfect read.
Playing at Merapi has something mystical and nobody can explain why, but the majority of golfers claim to feel the presence of the mountain with every stroke they play.
