When it comes to “after golf” activities, Jakarta is the perfect city to explore.
When in Jakarta, one has to start by visiting the ancient harbor of Sunda Kelapa, the place where the city of Jakarta (then named Jayakarta) found its humble beginnings in 1527.
As Sunda Kelapa is located in the Kota (Old Batavia) district, the Taman Fatahillah square is the place from where to begin exploring this historically important part of Jakarta. Although highly overpriced, Cafe Batavia is worth a visit for lunch or dinner or just for spending “a night in the pub” with life music.
THOUSAND ISLANDS – PULAU SERIBU
In the Bay of Jakarta, a collection of nearly 130 small bounty-like islands make up for a weekend retreat that is known by Jakarta people as Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands). The islands are home to white sandy beaches and sit amidst crystal clear waters that are perfect for swimming, diving and snorkeling. The islands furthest away, can be reached by speedboat in about two hours. The major islands offer lodging in simple hotels, bungalows or cottages. Simply lying in the sun and chilling are the preferred activities in Pulau Seribu.
NIGHTLIFE IN JAKARTA
Jakarta is a city that never sleeps. Its nightlife options are up to international standard. The majority of 4- and 5-star hotels offer not only prefect lodging and exquisite service, but certainly also food and F&B that originates from all corners of the world. Jakarta’s nightlife varies from cozy pubs and café’s all the way up to exclusive night clubs and ‘in vogue’ discotheques. In the latter facilities, international DJ’s show off their skills in keeping patrons on their feet till the wee small hours of the morning.
Traditional Javanese massage is the preferred remedy for stiff muscles from which golfers may suffer after a game of golf and as a result from too little stretching and exercise prior to going “for gold” on the course. No worries, traditional Javanese massage will have you back in shape in a jiffy and have you enjoy your every ‘perfect’ (or no so perfect) golf swing the following day.
Through their Spa facility, the majority of hotels in Jakarta also offer massage in the comfort of your own room. You may also want to talk to the concierge or guest relation officer and inquire for the best in-town Spa- and massage facility.
With nearly 100 shopping malls in town, in Jakarta you’re never far away from a shopping mall. The most famous shopping malls in town are Plaza Senayan and Senayan City near the Senayan roundabout, Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, and Pondok Indah Mall (1, 2 &3) in the posh residential area of Pondok Indah to name just a few. All these up-market malls sell goods of internationally well-known brands at competitive prices that are often up to 40% less than in other well-known shopping paradises in Asia.
